You May Already be Using Automotive LED Bulbs

Automotive LED bulbs help by lighting up the dashboard in your auto so that you can keep track of your speed, the amount of gas you have and the RPM levels. LED is an acronym for light emitting diode and this type of bulb was actually developed way back in the 1960's. The LED bulb soon became a standard part of calculators, digital watches and other equipment used for testing. With new technological developments that allowed color to be added to the LED, the use of the bulb extended to traffic lighting and pedestrian signs and the auto industry.

Halogen lighting vs. LED bulbs?

LED bulbs are generally not used as headlights in automobiles. The standard automotive light bulbs used in headlights are xenon bulbs. This type of bulb uses xenon gas and a stabilized arc of electricity to produce a bright light. This type of lighting is superior to the halogen lights for the following reasons:

• It provides improved visibility at night and when weather conditions are less than ideal.
• They produces twice as much light as an ordinary halogen bulb
• They only burn about 60% of the energy as halogens
• It reduces the amount of concentration a driver has to use to focus on the road ahead, thus reducing the amount of tiredness that results from the increased concentration.

Auto light bulbs are easy to find

Most new autos on the market have replaceable bulbs that can be purchased separately or in replacement kits. Most of the replacement bulbs have twin filaments that have a built in shield to prevent the light from escaping in the wrong direction. For low beam lights this filament is placed so that the auto's headlights face down toward the road. For high beam lights, the filament helps direct the car's lighting straight ahead.
